Malolo Barrier Reef
by Rick at 00:50:19, 2022-09-21 (day 3062)

We left Likuri with a forecast of not much wind, and indeed there as not much wind at all. So it was on with the donkeys and we trundled north making water as we went. With such a calm forecast, I started looking for new spots to anchor. Musket Cove was incredibly busy because their regatta has just ended. What was 20 boats when we were last there is now closer to 60! Not my idea of fun.

I had seen some sand patches on the satellite photos of the barrier reef a little way off from Malolo island (the one which is home to Musket Cove). So we decided to give it a go. We snuck slowly onto the reef as the depth decreased from 20 metres until we had just under 1 metre below the keels. Enough for the next few tides anyway.

This morning dawned with near glass out conditions. The sorts of conditions that the drone loves…

In fact, as the wind picked up above 2 knots, we slowly swung out so the stern was just over the slope but the bows were hovering above the sand.

The early morning sun, combined with the gentle waves made for some very nice video too.
