Duplicat's Diary

Savusavu

We’ve been knocking off the jobs here in Savusavu with a couple of minor hiccups. Yesterday we did some provisioning but the queues at the 2 ATMs in town were insane. We didn’t fancy queuing in the hot sun for what looked like an hour or so. Instead we had a pleasant lunch at the Coprashed Marina.

Today we started early and got some fuel. At least we filled the jerry cans at the servo across the road from the dinghy dock. However, though they had a card machine, they claimed it was just for Pacifica fuel cards. So we had to face the ATM queue. It wasn’t long after 8am, but there was still a queue. Shorter than yesterday though, and after 30minutes in the shade, we were at the machine and we’re fortunately able to extract enough cash for our needs (as we had thought there may be some limits as we saw people doing multiple transactions whilst we were waiting).

Fuel acquired, we started cleaning. It got hotter and hotter, with only a small breeze - but we managed to get the canopies clean and then the cockpit roof and cockpit itself, finishing with the cushions. Phew!

The a short battle with DJI and the drone software allowed us to fly, albeit not at the boat because we’re under the flight path for the airport here. To be fair, the planes to have to clear quite a hill just onshore, so we’d be fine flying even above mast height, but rules are rules. Got a nice panorama a bit further up the creek.

The cruise ship is close to where we are moored. And you can see the work going on for the new marina and resort (I think).

Tomorrow we’ll head to Suva which is an overnight sail.
