The wind calmed down a lot today, and as predicted swung NE. Usually I’d expect some rain and cloud, but we’ve escaped that. So Operation Dive the Pass went ahead. Just before low tide, we zipped over in the dinghy. Chris and Lynda from Fenice were already in the pass, so we had a quick chat. They were just snorkelling and checking current ahead of their departure tomorrow.
We aced the tide prediction and had a slight outgoing tide when we arrived, with some standing waves at the very entrance. By the time we’d snorkelled a bit, the tide had gone slack, so we opted to get our dive kit on. The slack water at low is pretty quick, and our first dive had no current to begin with, slightly increasing. The second dive had much more current and we superman-ed through the pass with the dinghy above us on our reels. Great fun. Visibility was pretty good. We didn’t hear whalesong (which Dardenella reported they heard on their dive), but as we have to tow our dinghy, I don’t like to start so far out of the pass. Maybe if we get some calm winds with a high tide slack, we’ll try again.
We saw 1 whitetip shark, some nemos (clown fish) defending their anenome and a huge crown of thorns starfish. Hopefully that does not become a problem down here!

It was a nice enough dive. We may do it again tomorrow as winds remain fairly calm then, picking back up on Thursday..
