Underway again

After a windy week at Namuka-i-Lau, we decided we’d get underway north. It was a strange place - a beautiful bay with our private beaches and plenty of coconuts to drink - but we did not see the villages at all. Well, we saw them in their boats visiting the ship, and we saw them fishing or hunting one night with torches - coming past us in their boats - but no interaction. I’m afraid it was just too windy for us to make it around to the village again.

So at 8am this morning, we picked up the anchor, motored out of the pass, pulled out the genoa and were sailing NW towards Taveuni. As the wind dropped, we swapped to the screecher for more sail area. The wind has been up and down a bit, and is due to ease off overnight - but we’re doing between 5 and 6 knots most of the time. We should be at Taveuni by Sunday morning most likely, but sometime during the day.

The lines have been in, and I was about to report that we’d caught nothing - when I spotted we’d hooked a fish. A lovely mahi-mahi, which was the very fish we said we wanted to catch! Lucky us!

It put up a bit of a fight and thoroughly covered me and the aft of the boat in blood because it started its death throes before we could get a line on it, and get it back in the water. It will be worth it though!
