Our anchorage is very pretty. Slowly shelving, shallow so we have about 60cm below the keel at low tide, but we’re still far enough off the beach that bugs aren’t an issue. We have 4 beaches to chose from, and plenty of coconut trees. We got a few drinking nuts yesterday and had a nice swim from the beach.
We tried to make it to the village as yesterday was supposed to be calmest day of the week. Alas its was just too rough. We got soaked before we’d even turned into the weather and started the 2nm trip. So we turned around. Its a shame as I’d taken a few tools to help the fibreglass boat that had showed us the way to the village. It needed some urgent attention with a grease gun! Hopefully they’ll head this way as I doubt we’ll make it to the village - but I think they’re probably of the same mind given the conditions.
When we arrived in the atoll, it wasn’t too bad, conditions wise, and the locals were out fishing on the reef at low tide - but even then, the swell was pretty big!

Today the wind has stepped up a notch. Its very comfortable where we are - paradise in fact, but we can see the waves outside the reef, and even inside looking through the dinghy pass - and they look atrocious. Indeed, we’re just watching the supply vessel fight its way east. According to AIS its down to 3 knots despite having protection from the reef.
The view through what we call the dinghy pass shows the waves breaking on the reef and quite a bit of white water inside the lagoon.

Think we’re having a boat day today! Looks like Saturday is our window to jump up to Taveuni and the land of connectivity again…
