Still in Ogea
by Rick at 03:02:17, 2022-08-07 (day 3017)

Ogea is a real gem. We’re loving the anchorage - great to paddleboard around, and at high tide we can zoom through the narrow channels in the dinghy to get to the village, rather than the hot, 40 minute walk each way.

At the village, we’re continuing to fix various electronic items. Mostly cables, DVD players and amplifiers. Word is getting out as we’ve had someone turn up in one of the ubiquitous fibreglass boats to ask if we can fix something. The guy with the LCD screen with big black bars down the screen from when it was dropped was disappointed to hear its unfixable.

Today (Sunday) we went to the village to attend church. The singing, as always, was incredibly good. Lots of harmonies and so much power. Almost too loud! The fijian priest was giving it some welly with the sermon too. The (acting) headmaster of the school, Ben, gave us a bit of info in english, but the rest was in Fijian.

Afterwards, we attended a feast as guests of Lolo, the headman in the village who has been very kind to us. The feast was in honour of 100 days since a local grandfather passed away - and it seemed like half the village was there! The food was good, and after, Lolo got some drinking nuts for us. Then it was the hot walk back to the dinghy…

Its certainly getting busy here. We’ve gone from 4 boats, to 8 and its getting close to the limit. The bay is named Bia by the locals, who have taken to calling it Bia marina!

We’ll probably stay here for the next trough (Thursday) as teh weather has been quite unusual this season. Then we’ll head north as the winds go southerly on Friday.
