Duplicat's Diary

Back to the village

Yesterday, the 4 boats that are in the nothern anchorage met on a beach for afternoon drinks and to burn some rubbish. It was good to chat to some of the other boats. At least one of them is heading to NZ at the end of the season, so we’ll probably see them again.

As we were getting ready to haul up the dinghy once back onboard, Nina spotted the manta ray that is known to frequent the anchorage. I got the drone up quickly and we got some great photos and video.

It cruised around for quite a while, totally unbothered by the drone.

This morning we took the dinghy to the village through the short cut (which is possible at high tide). Alas it was a bit overcast and did rain whilst we were there, so no pictures of the village at high tide. We met with Titus and gave him a USB stick with movies and TV shows. He gave us some carvings his father had done. We got some papaya too. Another villager, the headman in fact, asked me to look at a cable problem for his tablet. Its a Samsung one that uses its own proprietary 30 pin connector. Very close to the Apple one, but not quite the same. He’s tried to buy a replacement cable, but its not available anymore. I’ve managed to disassemble the connector and solder a cable onto the pins. We’ll try it tomorrow and see if my fix works. I suspect there will be more electronics that need fixing coming our way…

This afternoon has been pretty calm. We paddleboarded around the anchorage which was very nice - watched a school of fish being chased and jumping all around us to evade their tormentor. The sunset has been pretty nice too.
