Duplicat's Diary

Beqa
by Rick at 03:29:25, 2022-09-12 (day 3053)

We spent a bit longer in Suva than planned as I had the generator in bits on Sunday. Lip seals on the water pump need replacing, and I couldn’t bodge them. Hopefully Bryan can bring some when they come to visit in 12 days time - we don’t need the generator until then.

So the task of the morning was to do our fresh fruit provisioning, so off to the market we went - though we did have to watch the Rugby 7s world cup final where Fiji beat NZ. Rugby is a religion in Fiji, so there was no point going to town before then - no-one would be open! Every time the 7s win a tournament, there’s a new F$7 note. I have 2 so far and hopefully there will be a 3rd before we leave Fiji.

As expected quite a few market stalls were just opening - so a good call to wait. We got all we needed, headed back to the boat and got ready to leave. As we motored out through the pass, I couldn’t resist a photo of the wrecks on the reef.

We had a beautiful sail to Beqa, with the wind on the beam or just aft. It was quite light but the sail was lovely and we were making water and charging the batteries (just on solar) the whole way.

Our current spot is stunning. We’ll spend a couple of days here we think - and then move on. We’re slowly working our way back to Denarau/Vuda to pick up Bryan and Sammie…
